Dr Campbell’s Retirement

Doug Campbell retired at the end of February 2010, after 32 years as a GP, practising from Waterside and Blackfield Health Centres.

He trained at the Welsh National School of Medicine, qualifying in 1974, and worked at Cardiff Hospital until he joined the Red Practice in August 1978. The Senior Partner then was Dr John Guly.

He has always had an interest in medical education, from 1986 as a trainer in the practice (of  doctors training to become GPs), then, since 1991, as Course Organiser for the Southampton Day Release course, organising the programme of education for these prospective GPs. He obtained an MSc in Medical Education from Cardiff in 2005.

He will be remembered by many for his writing and production of the Christmas pantomimes from 1989 to 2006, featuring staff and doctors from Hythe Hospital and Hythe and Blackfield surgeries.

He became senior Partner of the Red Practice in January 2009, and since July, of the newly merged Red & Green Practice.

He married Jane in 1991 and is surrounded by a bevy of beautiful women to care for him in his old age, with 3 daughters, 3 stepdaughters, plus an expanding number of sons-in-law and grandchildren!

His partners, staff and patients wish him a long and happy retirement.
