Swine Flu Vaccine

The current threat from Swine Flu is now thought to be subsiding, however it is likely that it will continue to circulate in the future in much the same was as normal seasonal flu does. For this reason it is still recommended that the groups below are immunised as soon as possible.
If you have not yet been invited please call the surgery to arrange your vaccination.

The Department of Health has now issued guidance on the priority group for vaccination against Swine Flu.

The vaccine (of which there are 2 types) is now fully licensed for use in the UK and is considered safe

At risk Groups

1) Individuals aged between six months and up to 65 years in the current seasonal flu vaccine clinical at-risk groups
Ÿ
Chronic respiratory disease - eg Asthma, Emphysema / COPD
Ÿ
Kidney Disease
Ÿ
Liver Disease
Ÿ
Certain nervous system diseases
Ÿ
Diabetes
Ÿ
Patients with weakened immune systems  - either by disease or as a result of drugs (eg Chemotherapy)
Ÿ
Children who have previously been in hospital with chest infections


2) All pregnant women.

3) Household contacts of patients with weak immune systems

4) People aged 65 years and over in the current seasonal flu vaccine clinical at-risk groups (see above)
